Brrrrrrrr! This post is cold!

Gotcha? Yes! No? I don't know.

Well this blog post is going to get your brain frozen! Not literally, can we just chill and read on? Get it? Never mind. Before we chill and that, check the first and second blog posts first if you haven't already. If you have, read on.

Image result for south poleEveryone should know Antarctica, also known as the South Pole, is the world's coldest continent, there are no polar bears, just penguins, whales, birds, fish and seals. In fact, it's so cold that it doesn't rain! This is due to the cold temperature so there is little moisture in Antarctica. Even with water, the ice is so dry it's classified as a desert, it's even dryer than the world hottest desert, the Sahara.

At night, you might know Aurora Borealis, this happens due to charged particles during a solar flare, they collide with the Earth's magnetic field. As they collide they make countless bursts of light, called photons, and that's an Aurora Borealis. This proves that the Earth has a magnetic field.

There are no people that are born there and stay as residents. Although scientists do visit and stay to study there. Speaking of visit, not all penguins stay in the South Pole, they come there in summer when it's warmer.

This year the airline, Air New Zealand, filmed their safety video in Antarctica. They used some fabulous actors from Hornby Primary School in Christchurch. Speaking of safety, read the foot on the left. I know it sounds weird, well, go on.

That's all for our harsh, yet factual blog post, we'll see you tomorrow!

  1. Talofa Karl,

Cia here from the Summer Learning Journey Ako Hiko team.

I can see you have thought about what a digital footprint is and how we can be smarter online. You made a good point about sharing and how what you've shared is never really gone even if you delete it.

Perhaps next time you could talk a bit more about leaving positive, thoughtful and helpful comments and even give some advice about what to do if your personal information does get shared online. Sometimes personal information can get into the wrong hands. What steps do you think you should take if someone does find out your password? Who should you talk to first?

This reminds me of when I am with friends or family, we like to take lots of goofy photos of ourselves pulling funny faces but we’re pretty careful about setting them to private if we decide to upload them. It is good to know how to use privacy settings, especially if you want to share private photos or information with family and friends online.

    Keep working at it.

Toe feiloa’i fo’i (see you again),

    Cia.
